The semester that started it
Like a lot of Orange County parents, we had the apps. We had the portal logins. We still got surprised — because having access to six classes of assignment data is not the same as knowing when something quietly goes missing in one of them. The nightly check across every course is a real job, and the night you skip is reliably the night it mattered.
So one dad built a monitor at home: something that would do the checking on a schedule and say, plainly, either "one thing needs you tonight" or "nothing does." It worked. The school-night arguments got smaller. And the obvious question followed — why doesn't this exist for every family with a kid on Canvas? ByBedtime is that monitor, grown up: launching first for OCPS families, expanding to other Canvas districts.
The promises it runs on
These are the same house rules published on our homepage, and they don't bend:
- Never your school password. You connect with a revocable key from your own parent account. There is no password box on our site, and there never will be.
- Read-only, always. We can't submit, change, message, or touch anything in your school's systems. We look, we report — that's the whole job.
- We don't even need your kid's name. Students appear as the nickname you choose. No ads, no data sales, no profiles. Delete your account and it's genuinely deleted.
- No false "all clear." Ever. Every brief shows when we last verified. If the school's system won't answer us, we say so plainly instead of guessing that everything's fine.
- A safety net, not a surveillance camera. We watch the work, not the kid. Many families share the brief with their student — it turns "did you do it?" into "the list says one thing left."
What it costs, and why it costs that
$49 per school year — August through May, billed once, to match the school calendar rather than a subscription treadmill. The trial works the same honest way as everything else: create your account without a card, and your 14-day trial doesn't even start until the first successful Canvas sync. If we can't reach your school's data, you were never on the clock.
Independent, on purpose
ByBedtime is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with Instructure, "Canvas," or any school district. That independence is the point: we work for the parent, read through the parent's own authorized access, and answer to nobody else. Questions, doubts, or a district we should support next? Write to hello@bybedtime.com — a parent reads it.

One brief every evening. A heads-up the moment something's newly missing. And a ✓ when it's finally turned in — built by a parent who needed exactly that.
